Juan Miguel Marin

Juan Miguel Marin is an artist in Brooklyn who creates live paintings while listening to pre-recorded soundscapes, translating audio and memory into visual form across performances, posters, and albums.

Juan Miguel Marin works at the intersection of memory, sound, and emotion, letting the unconscious guide him toward discoveries only visible once the work is complete. His "Drawing Under the Influence" series pairs pre-recorded soundscapes and conversations with live painting—the artist meditates on the sounds while drawing, creating spontaneous visual representations imbued with the energy of place. Across film posters, album covers, and site-specific performances, Marin maintains a distinctive aesthetic that channels sound through image. His experience immigrating from Ecuador to the U.S. as a teenager deeply informs how he approaches the lives of others, particularly working-class and immigrant narratives. He also plays drums for the indie-dance band LEGS.
