CJ Hendry

CJ Hendry is an artist based in Greenpoint known for hyperreal colored pencil drawings and large-scale installations built for people to move through and take part in, not just view.

CJ Hendry built her reputation through hyperreal drawings of luxury objects, working from photographs in colored pencil with what she calls a meticulous scribbling technique. She craved something more immersive, wanting to build spaces people could step into and experience rather than just stand in front of. Her installations are raw environments, from a warehouse of crumpled Pantone swatches to spaces filled with plush flowers or scattered beads. They turn the act of making something visible into a collaborative process. She lets people experience her exhibitions however they choose, more interested in making art that feels open to everyone rather than prescribing meaning. She won't control the narrative. The work keeps advancing from one form to the next, not in service of the art world but to push herself creatively.
