Makerspace NYC

Makerspace NYC is a nonprofit studio in Brooklyn offering access to industrial equipment like welding torches, metal presses, and woodshop tools. Operating locations in Staten Island and Sunset Park, it provides classes, workforce training, and affordable memberships to artists and makers.

MakerSpace NYC gives people access to the industrial tools they'd otherwise never afford. Since opening on Staten Island in 2013, the nonprofit has shared welding torches, metal presses, woodshop lathes, and pottery wheels with artists, makers, builders, and tinkerers. It expanded to Sunset Park's Brooklyn Army Terminal in 2019, opening Futureworks Makerspace with an additional 50,000 square feet of shop space, private studios, and a 27,000-square-foot outdoor plaza for public art. The organization runs classes for kids and families, workforce development programs, and maintains affordable memberships so that the tools of production remain accessible regardless of income. What matters to them is clear: equipment and knowledge shouldn't be locked behind high price tags.
