bitforms is a gallery on the Lower East Side that represents artists working with code, pixels, and time-based systems. Founded in 2001, it moved to a ground-level storefront in the neighborhood in 2014 after thirteen years in Chelsea.

Founded in 2001 by Steven Sacks, bitforms gallery represents established, mid-career, and emerging artists critically engaged with new technologies. After thirteen years in Chelsea, the gallery relocated to a ground-level storefront on the Lower East Side in 2014. The gallery's animating concern is the question of how art takes shape through code, pixels, and time-based systems. The program draws on diverse disciplines while maintaining a progressive thread, supporting both historic figures and launching emerging artists who participate in leading international exhibitions. Pieces have been placed at MoMA, the Smithsonian, Tate Modern, and other major institutions. This is a space where generative art, video, plotter drawings, and algorithmic works exist on equal footing—where the boundary between analog and digital becomes a site of genuine artistic inquiry.
