Amant AZ is a non-collecting arts organization in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Founded by collector Lonti Ebers, it presents free exhibitions, artist residencies for those working outside New York, and performances in a multipurpose hall designed by architecture firm SO–IL.
Tucked between a slaughterhouse and a truck depot on Maujer Street, Amant is a non-collecting arts organization that opened in East Williamsburg in 2021, built out of cast-in-place concrete and turned brick by architecture firm SO–IL across a five-building campus. Founded by collector Lonti Ebers, it runs free exhibitions, a tri-annual residency open only to artists working outside New York, and performances in Géza: an 1,800-square-foot multipurpose hall that shifts between screening room and stage. The programming, guided by artistic director Ruth Estévez, gravitates toward research-based work that resists easy categorization: repatriation politics, diasporic film archives, postcolonial myth. The through-line is time: giving artists enough of it to actually slow down and find out what they're making.
Fun Stuff covers what's worth showing up for in Williamsburg every week, including programming at Amant AZ. Free.
