Maggie Boyd is a ceramicist in Brooklyn who translates drawings onto functional pottery, creating bowls and cups painted with bright colors and figures of female bodies in various states of movement and vulnerability.
Maggie Boyd has spent over twenty years translating drawings onto clay, treating the convergence of the two mediums as a conversation that never quite resolves. She produces bowls, cups, and planters in familiar shapes painted in bright colors, drawn and scribbled on, often featuring naked female bodies: writhing, reclining, giving birth, bleeding. She thinks of her work as three-dimensional, functional drawings. She is the 2026 artist in residence for LAND gallery in Brooklyn, a gallery and studio for adults with developmental disabilities. A book called HOW TO MAKE A POT is forthcoming in fall 2026 through Sacred Bones, addressing what it means to make something when form and intention resist neat alignment.
