Gasworks NYC is a ceramics gallery and studio in Brooklyn's South Slope neighborhood. Founded in 2016 by an art therapist, it offers 24/7 member access, gas-reduction firings, and sliding-scale memberships starting at $165, alongside a nonprofit fellowship providing firing stipends to BIPOC artists.
Gasworks operates from the belief that clay is not precious: it's a material for play, healing, and belonging. Founded in 2016 by Cor, who trained as an art therapist, the South Slope studio offers 24/7 membership access, cone 10 gas-reduction firings, and workshops in Chinese teawares and carving alongside foundational wheel and hand-building classes. What distinguishes the work is its structural commitment to access: a three-tier sliding scale membership starts at $165, paired with Public Ceramics, a nonprofit fellowship offering BIPOC artists firing stipends and residency support. The studio also hosts Queer for Clay, artist talks on atmospheric firing, and sprawling group exhibitions: most recently Creature Comforts, where 45 community ceramicists rendered their relationships with animals in clay. The animating logic is simple: that creative transformation happens when people feel safe enough to make mistakes.
