DB Burkeman

DB Burkeman is a musician and cultural historian based in Brooklyn, NY. He pioneered drum and bass in America through Breakbeat Science, the first U.S. record store dedicated to the genre, and has since authored multiple books on rave and pop culture history.

DB Burkeman moved from London to New York in 1989 and was an early pioneer in American rave culture, partly responsible for bringing drum and bass to the U.S. He co-founded Breakbeat Science recordings and store, the first record store in the United States to specialize in drum and bass. Since 2010 he's mostly retired from DJing and has worked in the art and publishing worlds, curating exhibitions and authoring 5 books focused on various aspects of pop and counter culture, with his own publishing company, Blurring Books. Over the past 7 years, DB has been working on a massive history of rave flyers book called ILLEGAL: Rave Flyers of the 90s. He functions as a cultural archivist, taking readers on journeys through drum and bass, punk flyers, and vinyl rarities.

Never miss a DB Burkeman performance.
