Cammi Climaco

BKLYN CLAY

Cammi Climaco is an artist in Brooklyn, NY who works across performance, sculpture, and functional ceramics, exploring the history of women in clay and how objects reflect inner worlds and mark time.

Her work moves between performance, sculptural and functional pieces and ruminates on the history of women in ceramics, finding joy in unreachable places and ancient love poems. Wild Freedom, a recent solo exhibition, began with experimentation of forms. Vessel, sculpture and functional object. And became about considering what objects make a person. Objects represent someone's inner world, mark time, and/or can indicate a future self. Climaco works with clay because it is "immediate and thought to fingers." She teaches at institutions including BKLYN CLAY and Greenwich House Pottery, and hosts The Ceramics Companion, where she talks about ceramics.
