Makeville Studio is a woodworking studio in Brooklyn. The woman and queer-owned space in a former Gowanus factory offers classes and shared workspace for people of all skill levels.
Makeville Studio believes everyone should experience the satisfaction of working with your hands. Especially those not traditionally encouraged to pursue woodworking. The woman/queer-owned space supports values of inclusivity, openness, collaboration, and safe space for all. Started in 2008 with just a handful of classes and a small shop, Makeville has grown into NYC's top venue to learn woodworking. The studio operates in an old sweater factory at 125 8th Street in Gowanus/Park Slope, offering classes where you can expand your skills and create something, and space where you can finish your own project. Some classes are labeled Women+ as a way to create space for cis women, trans women, and femme people. What keeps pulling Makeville forward is a commitment to demystifying craft. The belief that safety, understanding process, and accessible space are how woodworking becomes something anyone can claim as their own.
Fun Stuff covers what's worth showing up for in Williamsburg every week, including programming at Makeville Studio. Free.
