Fort Standard is a design studio in Greenpoint founded by Gregory Buntain in 2011. The studio designs and fabricates custom furniture and objects in materials like walnut, marble, and brass, building everything to order on-site.

Stone, brass, hard maple, walnut, Brazilian soapstone: the material comes first at Fort Standard. Gregory Buntain founded the Greenpoint studio in 2011 after cutting his teeth as a woodworker during the Great Recession, and the making-first ethos has never left. The shop is also a fabrication facility: everything is built to order on-site, which means Buntain controls the whole chain from design through production. The work spans dining tables and credenzas scaled for skyscraper lobbies down to cast-brass candle holders and marble coasters. But the question underneath it all stays the same. What does a material actually want to be, and what happens when you let that answer drive the form?

Never miss what's on at Fort Standard.
