Brooklyn Spark opened in Bushwick last spring as a working studio for makers of all levels, built by nine co-founders who wanted to reclaim what rising rents had taken from Brooklyn's DIY scene. The space houses a ceramics studio with kilns and a slab roller, a 600-square-foot woodshop, textile areas, and shared equipment including a laser cutter and 3D printer—the kind of infrastructure individual artists can't afford alone. At $165 a month for 24/7 access, it's built around a specific belief: that makers of different practices should work alongside each other. The studio runs skilled workshops in throwing, hand-building, and casting, alongside open studio time. The animating question is accessible making, not as a charity but as infrastructure.
