Vivian Girls is a punk band from Brooklyn, NY that formed in 2007 at a Greenpoint house venue and blended punk rawness with girl group sensibilities while maintaining hands-on control over their releases and self-booked tours.
Vivian Girls formed in 2007 at The Orphanage, a punk house in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. They took their name from a book by outsider artist Henry Darger. The band seamlessly blended punk rawness with girl group sensibilities, working from a philosophy where the most beautiful things come from community. The band maintains a hands-on approach to the aesthetics of each release and the tours they book, managing and driving themselves on the road, hitting towns other bands don't usually visit. After dissolving in 2014, all three members found themselves living in Los Angeles in spring 2018 and began rehearsing together, keeping the practices secret and enjoying the simple communion of playing. The latent darkness that always haunted their records is on full display upon their return.
