Simona Prives is an artist based in Brooklyn, NY who creates layered collages and video installations exploring decomposition and the relationship between organic and man-made forms. She created a 52-channel video installation for MTA Arts & Design at Fulton Center and teaches design at Parsons, NYU, and CUNY.
Simona Prives creates collages, both still and moving, that focus on the process of decomposition and reconstruction and examine our complex relationship between the organic and the man-made. Each work begins with collage, incorporating densely layered drawings, ink paintings, and multiple forms of printmaking and photography. In 2021, Prives was commissioned by MTA Arts & Design to create a 52 channel, site-specific video installation in Fulton Center, Lower Manhattan. She teaches design at Parsons, NYU, and CUNY. The through-line in her practice is relentless: take maps and geological patterns apart, animate the fragments, and project them at life scale so the viewer steps inside a world being built and broken simultaneously. Growth and decay aren't opposed in her work. They're the same process, filmed.
