Holy Tongue is a band based in Brooklyn, NY. The London trio of percussionist Valentina Magaletti, producer Al Wootton, and bassist Susumu Mukai blend experimental dub, post-punk, and free jazz through drums, bass, and synthesizers.
Drums, bass, synthesizers, sirens, and a low-end pressure that pulls toward trance: that's the core of Holy Tongue. The London trio of percussionist Valentina Magaletti, producer Al Wootton, and bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin) started as a studio experiment in East London in 2018 and built outward from there: three EPs that absorbed the experimental dub of Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound, the post-punk clatter of 23 Skidoo and Liquid Liquid, and the spiritual weight of free jazz. Their 2023 debut album Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare locked those influences into a full-length form. A 2024 collaboration with producer Shackleton pushed further, Magaletti's percussion holding the anchor while everything around it stretched and warped. What they keep returning to is the body: dub as ritual, rhythm as threshold.
